It cracks your Windows password, either by breaking the hashes or with brute force... I'd like to try a brute force attack on mine, but I haven't found a Linux application that does this

Erm... humour me here, but WHY would you need this? If you needed to run this program wouldnt you need your password??? Or can you run it from a boot up screen?

Ophcrack can be run within Windows, or as a live session (put in the CD and boot). I am not sure just how it work, but it probably crack the password based on the files which it is stored. I can try it out on both XP and Vista, let you know how it work

It is a security tool, most likely made to make people aware of the vulnerability of passwords. Also, like Dan pointed out, it can be used if you forget the Windows password, so you won't have to reinstall..
